Show Times:
My name is Mary. Margaret Mary Theodora Macdonald. I have a good life.
My father was an important person, you might’ve heard of him.
Just in time for Sir John A. Macdonald’s bicentennial being celebrated all over Kingston and Canada this year, H’art Centre will present Baboo, an original production based on the life of Sir John A. Macdonald’s only daughter, Mary.
Born with hydrocephalus and loved dearly by her father, Mary Macdonald’s life story has been woven into two tellings using different mediums and styles.
In the first telling, performers with intellectual disabilities will share Mary’s story through a multi-media presentation using music, graphics, storytelling, and drama with the support of production team Audrey Sara K. Sturino, Anita Boldt, and Daniel Chalmers. In the second version, Baboo and her typewriter will tell their own story as puppeteer Annie Milne and the Baboo Puppet Troupe bring it to life. With puppets of diverse sizes and styles, the troupe will illuminate Mary’s life in an engaging and humorous way. Puppets designed and adapted to individual abilities will enable the five performers to present this original work of theatre.
The show will feature original music by local musicians Daniel Chalmers and Brittany Smith.
Participants from our H’art School program will also release their new illustrated book, Baboo, at the event.
