Ontario Trillium Foundation helps H’art Centre expand and extend new program for seniors with disabilities

H’art Centre is is delighted to announce generous funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will allow it to expand and extend its new Young at H’art arts program for seniors with disabilities, preparing to launch on September 12th.

“What this means is that seniors who may need a little more support to take part in the arts can look forward to creative opportunities at H’art Centre for a full year,” said Katherine Porter, Executive Director of H’art Centre. “The Ontario Trillium Foundation has given us a tremendous opportunity to make this program a viable long-term option for seniors in Kingston.”

The goal of Young at H’art is to enrich the lives of at least 60 of Kingston’s seniors with disabilities, seniors with age-related functional decline, and their primary caregivers by offering five targeted arts classes in visual arts, storytelling, dance, music and theatre. These classes will help these seniors and their caregivers to become more active and engaged in community life; provide them with access to barrier-free creative space; expose them to artist educators ready to value and share their unique perspective; and give them an opportunity to inspire the community by showing them what they can do.

To learn more about the free classes or to register, visit www.hartcentre.ca/yah or call 613-545-1392.

H’art Centre thanks the Ontario Trillium Foundation for its commitment to increasing access to arts across the province.
